Brenda Adkinson received her BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin in 1983, her JD from the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1985, and her LL.M in Taxation from New York University in 1986.

Brenda began her career in 1986 at Locke, Purnell, Boren, Laney & Neely (now Locke Lord) in Dallas, where she gained significant experience in a variety of areas relating to taxation and general business law, including negotiating and drafting partnership and joint venture agreements; assisting in the negotiation and documentation of corporate reorganizations, mergers, and acquisitions; handling tax controversies at the audit, administrative and court levels; and advising clients regarding nonqualified compensation arrangements and drafting deferred compensation agreements, stock option plans and incentive compensation plans. Brenda became a shareholder at Locke, Purnell in 1993 and continued her practice until she left the firm to join Electronic Data Systems in 1994, where she was a tax attorney specializing in international and federal taxation, including planning, negotiating and implementing acquisitions, dispositions, partnerships and joint ventures, structured finance (including cross-border transactions) and global service agreements. In 2000, Brenda went into private practice where she was able to use her skills learned at a large law firm and in-house for a public company to assist a variety of clients with general business issues and contracts, corporate transactions and taxation. From 2002 to 2011, Brenda was a senior attorney at Malouf, Lynch, Jackson & Swinson, P.C., in Dallas, where she continued her practice in general business, corporate and other business transactions, drafting complex joint venture and partnership agreements, employee benefits, taxation and evaluating investment opportunities. Brenda moved to Austin at the end of 2011 and, since that time, has assisted clients from Austin, San Antonio, Houston and the valley area in the same practice areas, with the addition of estate planning and probate. She joined Leighton, Williams, Adkinson & Brown, PLLC in 2015.
